Rain Rain Go Away

This was one of our favorite nursery rhymes. We did some math, art, and science with this one. 

 I found some raindrops and cloud post it notes in the dollar section at Target so I made a quick little number game. They put blue gems on the raindrops and we counted together.

 Hollis liked putting the blue gem "raindrops" in the pink cups more. :o)

We did a little science experiment with shaving cream clouds....here Marin is playing in the clouds. ;o)

 And now for the science experiment found on Pinterest. We used a glass of water with shaving cream on the top for clouds. Then Marin squeezed a few drops of blue food coloring (rain) onto the cloud.

 She waited and waited....and then....

 IT RAINED!!!!!

 Marin loved it. Hollis wasn't so sure about it.

Then we used the rest of the clouds to make a rainstorm.

some quiet time activities.....

I found some more Pinterest/blog ideas for quiet time and church activities. 

First, a little dry erase activity notebook. I printed off some sheets with their names, numbers, and shapes and put them in sheet protectors. They can color and trace with a dry erase marker and then erase with a washcloth. 

 I found these yellow foam letter tiles at the Dollar Tree and decided to make some "Word Mats" for Marin to match the letters. Loved it. It was a great independent little game. She doesn't take naps anymore (tear) so this will go in the "quiet time" box. 

Not really a quiet activity but very independent for Hollis....dropping the poker chips in the can. 

Nursery Rhymes: Jack and JIll

Next came....

Jack and Jill (Part One)

The girls colored and glued a hill and Jack and Jill. 

 See those cute crayons?? They were a special gift from Aunt Carole. They are all super fun shapes and the girls love them. 

Hollis was making Jack and Jill go up the hill until they needed a kiss. :o)

Marin did this shapes sort while Hollis was napping. She did it all by herself. I was pretty impressed she didn't have glue all over the place. :o)

We are going to one more little water play Jack and Jill activity with their pails. ;o)

Nursery Rhymes: Little Miss Muffet

The next rhyme we did was Little Miss Muffet! This is probably Marin's favorite because when we act it out, she sits on my knees (tuffet) eating her curds and whey. When the spider frightens her away, I throw her on the couch. She thinks its hilarious and it may be an arm workout for me.

Hollis LOVES LOVES LOVES markers. Some how they end up all over her body (mostly her mouth)  but she gets so excited when we pull them out. Here she needed a marker for each hand...busy worker coloring her rhyme book. 

Marin has been wanting to color the entire picture these days. 

Then we painted an egg carton spider. We had multi colored spiders. :o)

Nursery Rhymes: Hickory Dickory Dock

I have seen some cute nursery rhyme stuff on Pinterest. So we decided to do some projects with our favorite rhymes. 

First was Hickory Dickory Dock...

We used an old yogurt box to make a clock. Glue is always a favorite. 

Then we talked about the numbers on a clock and put number stickers on their own clocks.

Hollis had her stickers all over her clock until she saw Marin's. And in true little sister fashion, she peeled each of stickers off and put them on the circle just like Marin's. She has to be just like big sister.

Here are their finished clocks! I made the mice out of felt and hot glue. Since it was hot, I just made them separately. But they will "act out" the rhyme making the mouse move up and down the clock as we say it. It's pretty cute.

Bad Frogs

We decided to do a little painting project earlier in the summer with one of library books....Bad Frogs. It's a cute little story and the girls, of course, had fun painting.

She was so careful to paint the entire frog. Serious concentration.

Letters Uu, Vv, and Ww

So, we are barely and I mean BARELY making it through the alphabet. Honestly, we may do a cute little xylophone craft for Xx but then forget Yy and Zz. Who uses those letters anyways? :o) But here is Uu, Vv, and Ww....

She cut the cupcake holders in half and glued them on her paper.
She loves the glueing part. 

We added the handles and then she painted raindrops with one of her lego blocks.

For letter Vv, she made a vase with "powers" flowers. The girl loves flowers! 

And for the letter Ww, we have been "playing in the wader"! Seriously, it's hot here and we are LOVING going to the pool! We got to go to Schilterbahn (sp?) Water Park this week and the girls had their first swim lesson today. Letter Ww is probably their favorite letter. :o)

And other fun stuff Marin is really enjoying these days are.....

Her car parking lot.
I made this a long time ago but she is just now showing interest in it.
She will park the cars by color and then sometimes I will call out a color and she parks the car in that spot.
Matching the colors is her favorite though. 

And number block cards.
This one she loves way more than I thought she would. Hollis even "plays" too.
She picks a number card and then stacks that number of blocks.
