Some of March....

This may be the most random post ever. Beware...no clear thoughts or organization to any of these activities. Sorry.
There have been several "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of days in our school lately.
First, Hollis is doing so great in school! She is usually the first one to ask for it or the first one to the school room when I call for them. It is so fun to watch. But here are two of her little math activities: Pattern Puzzles (Melissa and Doug) and a Shape Clothespin Matching Game. She has mastered them both which boosts this girls confidence so much!

Both girls love to CUT! So here Marin is doing a cut and glue puzzle. She cut out the pieces, matched the numbers, glued them in place and revealed a picture. An apple. She loved the mystery puzzle. Hollis cut her numbers 1-5 and glued them in order.

I'm trying to get my alphabet activities organized (which is almost impossible). But I have had these ABC play dough mats for a long time but they showed no interest in them. I pulled them out this past week and they were a hit. They both did a great job filling in their letters!

While they played, it gave me a chance to assess them a little or it let me play too.
But I just stamped a few letters and numbers into my playdough and asked them to point to certain ones. It gave me a quick idea of what letters and number they know, need to work on, difference between a letter or a number, etc. Quick and easy and NO INK involved. ;o)

Again....I'm getting my ABC work organized. They found my stash and did some pre-writing practice.

I'm working on our spring sensory bin right now.
I am pretty excited about it and can't wait to get it all finished!

This week we are talking about the Letter Pp. We have really taken a break from letter of  the week curriculum this year. After 2 years, they were done with it. But I'm picking it back up for Hollis. They both seem to be happy with their break from it and happy to start it again. So Pp for St. Patrick's Day.
Pot of gold counting!
The gold coins were leftover from Hollis' pirate party. But they read the number on the pot and place that amount of coins on it.

Marin has become VERY interested in drawing and art lately. So we tried a little directed drawing activity. She loved it and her bunny turned out pretty darn cute! She used pastels for the bunny face, marker for outline, and watercolors for background.

Winter Fun

In our little tot school we have been talking about "winter-ish" things. :o) Last week we did Pp is for penguins and polar bears! This week will be Ss is for snowflakes, snowballs, snowmen, etc. Although our weather here is BEAUTIFUL it almost feels like spring (Ss is for spring?!?!). Anywho, we are having fun.

Both girls love doing handprint/footprint projects. So here is a footprint penguin.
We are really trying to get those letter sounds memorized now. She knows her letters pretty well so now its the sounds we are working on.

I found an alphabet banner at the Dollar Tree and hung up in our playroom.
Hopefully we can hang up our little alphabet projects under each letter.

Circling the letters Pp in the collage. Then we talked about all the things that begin with the /p/ sound.

I made a little penguin shape book in my little TpT store. Here the girls are painting a circle penguin.

Working on the heart penguin...

Here is the heart and square when they are finished.
I tried to flip the photo but it's not happening for some reason.

We started a "salt tray" this week to practice more fine motor skills.
She loved it. Here is her circle.

And her P!

We pulled out little toys/magnets/objects that began with the letter P and made the /p/ sound (a lot).
We made a little Pp book and chose two objects to add to the book. Marin chose pig and pizza.

And now for a polar bear craft!! We read a book about playful polar bears and then made a mask out of a paper plate and cotton balls.

A little Ss week.....
This is our snowman game. We wind up the penguin and let him walk on the snowman numbers. Whichever number the penguin lands on, she counts counts out snowflakes in the ten frame.

Then she counted "snowballs" (marshmallows) on a dice.

This has nothing to do with Pp or Ss or Winter but Hollis made circles on the Magna Doodle. :o)

Letters Oo and Pp

So we are speeding things up a bit since we are moving and packing....BUT Marin still LOVES to have a little project. And since we are in crazy mode, it is easier to plan one or two little activities with each letter instead of a full weeks worth. Plus most of our stuff is packed. So we are going to do a couple of letters a week until we move. Here is Oo and Pp.....
Do-A-Dot with an Octopus!

Creating an ocean collage with animal sponges, tissue paper, and stickers.

Hollis "playing" Marin's math game on the Ipad. She cracks me up on this thing.

Making a penguin for the letter Pp.

Playing with the Pp on the Letter Factory toy.

Marin's penguin. :o)

Potato Printing

Hollis had so much fun doing this little project!

Marin did pink potato prints because we cut them out and turned them into pigs. ;o)
