Picture Dictionaries and Mystery Letter Fun!

Last week we looked at picture dictionaries and played Mystery Letter Bag to learn about things that begin with the letter Bb. First, I had made this little flip book for each letter a while back ago and thought maybe the girls would enjoy having a little "book" of their own.  We said the letter and the sound it makes then we flipped through the picture dictionary (from my childhood) and read some of the words that begin with /B/.  They loved the picture dictionary and of course wanted to draw the impossible b words....like belong. :o) We settled for birthday and ball.  Balloon and bee were already a part of the flip book. So we added our two for a total of 4 words in our book.

This girl loves some markers.

Reading her Bb flip book to Elsa the Zebra.
If you would like a copy of the alphabet flip book you can find it in this pack....

Then we sang and played Mystery Letter Bag. I threw a lot of /b/ objects into a bag. We would sing our song and reach into the bag and say the objects emphasizing the /b/sound.

Tune: Farmer in the Dell

What starts with Bb?
What starts with Bb?
Reach into the letter bag.
Let's see what starts with Bb!

Then for little bit, we played point to the Bb word. Where is the /b/, /b/, brush. She loved using the pointer.

Let's Pretend BAKERY

Because the girls love play doh and pretend play so much, I combined them to make a fun, little letter Bb activity.  A BAKERY! We pulled out all of our pretend food that would be appropriate for a bakery, then cut out some cardboard circles for play dough cookies and pies. We made a menu board and used magnetic letters to spell the word bakery. It, of course, was a hit.

Making play doh cookies was a favorite of Hollis'. She loved rolling, patting, and stamping all the shapes to make a cookie. It was so cute to watch her concentration.
Princess Elsa and Princess Jasmine had to help out in the Bakery too.
They took their job very seriously.

 Thinking about improvements. Then....improving. :o)
Princess Jasmine was our first customer. They had such a great time!!!

And we may have stopped by a REAL bakery and got a cupcake! Yum.

Tot School: Week 2

Letter of the Week: Bb
Number: 2
Shape: Triangle
Color: Brown

Book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

My mom came for a visit this week which kinda disrupted our little "school" routine. You see, Maye Maye, is one of their most favorite toys. So they played. And played, And played.

But we did squeeze in some little activities as well....

Our baskets:
1. Stringing Beads
2. Playing alphabet Bingo
3. Letter Bb I Spy Game
4. Counting with Buttons
They LOVED the buttons and the Letter Bb game.
But they had no interest in the beads or Bingo at all.

She got a new backpack. Never takes it off.

 Our Board:

Our Activities:
This one was mainly for Hollis....Bb/Butterfly magnet pages.
But Marin loved them too.

Balloon painting on the Letter Bb.

"I Spy With my Little Eyes" game with toilet paper roll binoculars and Bb toys. I would name an item and they had to find them.
This was another Hollis game but Marin loved the "binoculars". Hollis loved it too though.
She would say baby, bear, bus, and ball. Butterfly and block were a little tricky for her.

Painted wooden butterfly masks. This project took a total of 5 seconds it seemed. :o)

A little cut and glue Butterfly Life Cycle project.

Another cut and sort the Bb pictures...
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We retold the story with our little sock puppet and paper plates.
I got a cute video of Marin retelling the story.

And then we watch our caterpillar formed their chrysalis. One caterpillar didn't make it.
But the other three are now safely in the butterfly net!

Letter of the Week: Bb

For our letter Bb activities, she.....
Put pom pom magnets on her B Butterfly sheet.
I didn't expect Marin to really get into this one but she loved it.
Played with it every day this week.

She put Ball stickers on the Bb.
Another activity I didn't think she would like but she LOVED it.
We put stickers on the Bb all week long.

We ate read Brown Bear Brown Bear.

I found this really cute Brown Bear I Spy game.
I thought Marin would love it....a shaker and markers.
Didn't show any interest at all in it. :o)

But here it is. The Brown Bear characters are in the bottle. Shake it and color the animal you see
on the I Spy sheet.
The printouts are here

We counted Bugs.
The game board is here

Put Beans in a Bottle.
She loved this one.

Blew some BUBBLES!

And gave her baby a bubble bath!
